Fayette County Wednesday Walks 
2017 All walks will be held on Wednesdays and begin at 6:30 p.m.

June 7-Connellsville Revitalization Walk– Downtown Connellsville has been
undergoing a revitalization effort over the past 8 years and the hard work is starting to show. On
this Wednesday Walk, you will get to see some of this work as we look from our past to our
present and into the future. This is a 1.2 mile walk over paved surface. Meet at the Yough River
Trail parking lot on First Street, adjacent to the new Cobblestone Hotel. Please use the Yough Trail
parking lot. Address: 325 N. First St,, Connellsville PA.
June 14—Brownsville Downtown Walk- This walk will explore downtown Brownsville
and present the new projects underway. The walk will end on Water Street at the Twelve Oaks
restaurant, where you can go inside and eat some great food! The walk begins at the Flat Iron
Building in Brownsville. Park across the road from, or behind the Flat Iron Building. Or park to left
of the dumpster on Brown Street. Address: 69 Market St., Brownsville PA.
June 21—YMCA Family Fun Walk- Come enjoy a story, a stroll, and a swim. Walk
around the YMCA walking trail and on the YMCA co-sponsored Rotary Walk and hear a children's
story. Families are invited to tour the YMCA facility and take a free swim following the walk. Both
the story and the swim are optional. Park at the YMCA and meet under the pavilion next to the
tennis courts. Address: One YMCA Drive, Uniontown PA.
June 28— Historic East End of Uniontown: Explore the rich African American
history of Uniontown by listening to the history of Baker Alley and the Underground Railroad and
viewing the commemorative markers, as well as visiting one of the historic churches where former
slaves escaped from what is now Route 40 to Baker Alley into the East End or what was once
called “Hayti”. We will visit other historically African American churches along the route. This
tour begins at the East End United Community Center 150 Coolspring St., Uniontown, Pa.
July 5—Fort Necessity Hike- Hike the historic military road that brought three empires
into conflict at the Great Meadows and Fort Necessity. Learn about recent restoration work on the
battlefield in this 90 minute program and hike. Parking will be in the main lot at the visitor center.
Address: Fort Necessity National Battlefield, National Pike, Farmington PA.
July 12— Indian Creek Valley Trail—Join us for a 1 mile hike through beautiful nature
views. Meet at Resh Park in Indian Head. Parking is available. The Indian Creek Snack Bar is our
business partner for this hike. Here are the directions to Indian Creek Valley Trail: From
Connellsville- Take 711 N towards Normalville. Travel about 8 miles. Turn Left onto Indian Creek
Valley Road (PA 381 N/PA 711 N). Travel about 3.4 miles. Turn Right onto Indian Head
Road. Parking is available at Resh Memorial Park. Address: 2005 Indian Head Road, Indian Head

July 19—Footprints Farm Hike— Join us as we learn about this local family farm
growing meats, vegetables, and herbs using natural and traditional farming systems. Meet at the
farm. Parking is available along the road leading up to the farm. Farm products will be available
for purchase. Address: 184 McClellan Lane, Gibbon Glade PA.
July 26—Connellsville History WalkWorks Route– Join WalkWorks and the
Connellsville hosts as you learn about the history of Highlands Hospital and Connellsville city on
the newest WalkWorks Route. Park in the Highlands Hospital parking lot and meet in front of the
hospital. Address: 401 East Murphy Avenue, Connellsville PA.
August 2—Palmer Patch Town Walk–Enjoy a one mile walk through Palmer. Hear
about the history of this Patch Town, including the ethnicity, customs and community memories.
Meet and park at the Adah Volunteer Fire Department. Address: 126 Firehouse Rd., Adah PA.
August 9—Dunbar Coke Ovens Hike— Join us for a short hike along the Sheepskin
Trail to view the Coke Oven restoration project. Hear about the History of the Sheepskin Trail and
Coke Ovens. Stop into the Dunbar Historical Society to see the “Seated Torso” glass sculpture from
the famous artist, Pascal. This ½ mile hike is over the flat, trail surface. Meet and park at the
Franklin Methodist Church. Address: 54 Bridge St., Dunbar PA.
August 16—Friendship Hill Family Hike– Explore the historic estate of Albert
Gallatin and learn of his accomplishments to the early American republic. Activities are planned
for young walkers. Parking will be in the main lot below the mansion. Address: 223 New Geneva
Road, Point Marion PA.
August 23—Christian Klay Winery Hike– Christian Klay Winery– Join Sharon Klay
for this favorite-a walk through the vineyards, and hear about the winery. Meet at the barn.
Address: 412 Fayette Springs Road, Chalk Hill PA.
August 30—End of Season Celebration Picnic–Stay Tuned! More information to
come on this End of Season Event!
