WIC Farmers Market Day 2019

Join us for WIC Farmers’ Market Fun Day and Distribution!

FCCAA WIC Program is once again participating in the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP). The purpose of the FMNP is to provide nutritionally at-risk women, infants and children with vouchers for nutritious unprepared foods from farmers’ markets, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, and to increase awareness and use of these markets.

When: Wednesday, June 19

Where:  Checks can be picked up at Uniontown WIC Clinic – second floor of Fayette County Community Action Agency Family Service Center – 140 N. Beeson Avenue, Uniontown

When:

9:00am-4:00pm: special distribution of the farmers’ market checks (for WIC eligible women and their children)

10:00am-3:00pm: outdoor activities (open to public)

THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AND YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A WIC PARTICIPANT TO ATTEND.

There will be games, giveaways and food tastings!  WIC participants can pick up their famers’ market checks and then join in the activities.  WIC clients will receive nutrition education when the farmers’ market checks are distributed, emphasizing the importance of eating fresh fruits and vegetables.

Who is eligible for FMNP benefits?

WIC participants who are pregnant, breastfeeding (up to 12 months) and postpartum (up to 6 months) women, and children ages 1 to 5 will be eligible for FMNP benefits in 2019. Each will receive a one-time issuance of four $5.00 vouchers.  Individuals who do not meet WIC benefit qualifications during the period of FMNP check distribution will not be eligible to receive the FMNP benefit.

The distribution of farmers’ market vouchers is only for WIC eligible women and their children and does not include senior citizens, who will have a different distribution date.  The checks may be redeemed between June 1 and November 30 of this year and may only be used to purchase produce grown in Pennsylvania.

No appointments are necessary, however, clients are asked to bring their voucher holder and ID.  Clients who are unable to pick up their vouchers on June 19 will receive their farmers’ market checks at their regularly scheduled WIC appointments in June, July, August or September.
