Community Action strives to enrich the lives of older residents of the community through its numerous services. In a county with almost 18% of its population over the age of 65, these services respond to the many needs of the areas older citizens-including nutrition, exercise, socialization, healthcare, in-home services and specialized care. In 2009, Community Action’s aging services touched the lives of more than 4,500 older people and their families.

Community Action has been a leader in the delivery of services to elderly residents of the county for over 40 years. We pride ourselves in having introduced the Meals on Wheels Program to the county. We have been very successful in developing various programs including Center Services, and in working and providing services with volunteers.

The most visible part of the aging program is its Senior Centers, which operate in Uniontown, Fairchance, Farmington and Bullskin Township. The Uniontown center is a full time center operating five days a week and providing services to nearly 100 people daily. Fairchance, Farmington and Bullskin operate weekly programming and are very active in coordinating services to older residence in their area.

Activities and presentations are focused on current health and wellness information, safety and the interest of our members. We have a Travel Club which plans trips to plays, concerts or just traveling to see the fall leaves change. There are Wii bowling teams, Dart ball & Pool leagues that members can join in and have a great time competing with other centers or just play for fun. Other activities include exercise, games and nutrition classes to name a few. We have Wi-Fi for those who have an interest in the web or just starting out and want to learn. There is so much more our centers provide but the most important is the chance to meet new people, develop friendships and share a good meal in an environment you can feel good to be a part of.
